Gary’s last birthday
Matt Jalbert, 30 June 2000

I lost a great friend, Gary Brickman, on June 26, 2000. In his memory I post these photos I shot of him on December 1, 1999.

We had gone down to Duarte’s in Pescadero, California, for a liesurely Wednesday lunch in celebration of his upcoming 38th birthday. It was a beautiful afternoon. Duarte’s is a funky old restaurant in a rural area about 40 minutes south of San Francisco. We both got fish for an entree, then treated ourselves to the olallieberry pie (a local specialty). After a two hour lunch we walked and rolled over to the local bakery, where Gary got a double espresso.

Coffee in hand and our stomachs happy, we drove the mile to the coast and marveled at the beauty that fills the world. As always, hanging out with Gary was a combination of heavy talk about life and wacky forays into Godfather quotes, impersonations, and gossip. I will miss him always. Peace be with you, Gary.
