Memorial Service Scheduled for Gary Brickman, Managing
Editor, NBCi Broadband Services
Gary Brickman, NBC Internet, Inc. executive and former journalist,
died last week at his home in San Francisco at age 38. Brickman's tenure
at NBCi and Snap was marked by significant contributions to the development
of NBCi's broadband services, where he served as the guiding editorial
voice for NBCi's broadband content destination.
A celebration of Brickman's life will be held July 15th, 1:00 PM PST
- 7:00 PM PST, at 6971 St. Helena Rd., Santa Rosa, California (see
details). Brickman's family has requested that donations in memory
of Gary Brickman's remarkably full life can be made to The Wellness
Fund For Daniel Brickman, c/o Exchange Bank P.O. 403, Santa Rosa, CA
95402. The only sadness in Brickman's life was his brother Daniel's
battle with schizophrenia. Gary was his brother's touchstone and never
lost hope or stopped supporting Daniel in his struggle to regain his
wellness.
Brickman, Managing Editor, NBCi Broadband Services, joined NBC and CNET's
Snap in May 1999 prior to the formation of NBC Internet, Inc. and played a
critical role in developing Snap and NBCi's broadband strategy, content alliances
and editorial look and feel. NBCi's broadband services currently are distributed
by such leading providers as Bell Atlantic, GTE, Prodigy/SBC, RealNetworks,
and others, due in large part to Brickman's diligence and contributions to
NBCi's robust broadband offerings.
Brickman devoted tremendous energy, passion and enthusiasm to his work,
overseeing the development of such initiatives as the NBCi Broadband tuner
and content channels.
Prior to his tenure at NBCi and Snap, Brickman enjoyed a successful career
as a print, online and television journalist. He was Associate Producer for
CBS This Morning, served as Contributing Editor to the New York Times and
supervised the development and launch of Web sites for CMP Media's TechWeb
and Interactive Age. His work also appeared on ABC and FOX network television
affiliates and in numerous publications.
Brickman filled his life with adventure and purpose. Prior to his journalism
career, he was the National Student Coordinator for the Walter Mondale Presidential
Campaign, represented the National Disabled Students Association as a lobbyist
in Washington, D.C., and managed and promoted the Berkeley Jazz Festival.
He is remembered by those who worked with him for his courage and drive
to overcome his personal physical challenges in life. Brickman's sense of
humor and understanding of human nature made him a valued co-worker and a
great friend. He is survived by his parents, Linder Allen and Harvey Brickman,
and his brother, Daniel.
